Mayra Parrilla Guerrero is a morning reporter at WSAW. She ed the team in 2025 but has been in the company since 2022, starting as a digital content producer at WIS News 10 in Columbia, South Carolina.
Being of Hispanic descent, Mayra specializes in community reporting, giving a voice to those ready to tell their story. She decided to begin her journalism journey after learning English from scratch by watching the news and realizing how much journalists change the world.
During her time at WIS, Mayra has helped cover one of the biggest trials in South Carolina, the Alex Murdaugh trial. She has covered presidential visits, interviews, major crimes, and anything highlighting her culture.
Mayra was born in Spain but was raised in Levittown, Puerto Rico. She came to the U.S. in 2009 as a preteen, calling the Mississippi Delta home before relocating again to Charlotte, North Carolina, a place she also considers home.
When she is not out telling a story, she is at home reading a book or out exploring a new place.
