‘We are so pumped’: Augusta Canal reopening ahead of this weekend
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Augusta Canal is reopening ahead of this weekend for kayakers and paddleboarders.
The Savannah Rapids kayak rental says the tow path will remain closed due to work.
We updated you on the canal’s status a few weeks ago, where officials were still clearing debris from it.
‘I could make a living out of this’: New Augusta food truck specializes in breakfast
Two months ago, owner Nicole Walker opened a food truck in Augusta, specializing in breakfast food. They offer soul food, including fried flounder, grits bowls, chicken, hot dogs and waffles.

Officials with the rental say they are excited to reopen.
“We are so pumped, this is the jewel of Augusta, and we feel like we are ambassadors of the jewel of Augusta. Don’t get me wrong Stallings Island is a lot of fun. The Serene18 is incredible, just the ladies here at the visitors center have done a good job of marketing it, but this canal I think, is the biggest resource Augusta has,” said Leslie Wright, owner, operator, Savannah Rapids Kayak Rental.
They are open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. every day for rentals.
“I feel like it’s important because people need some stress reduction, I mean, they need some water therapy. There is nothing like the peace that you can get from floating down this canal,” said Wright.
