Man accused of releasing raccoon into bar after he was kicked out, police say

MURRAY, Kentucky (Gray News) - A Kentucky man, reportedly known as “Cowboy Cody,” was arrested Friday after allegedly releasing a raccoon inside a bar, according to police.

According to the Murray Police Department, officers were called to the bar after a report of a man intentionally releasing a raccoon into The Big Apple Grill and Bar.

Officers later found the suspect, who was identified as 40-year-old Jonathan Mason.

Police said they had to forcibly remove Mason from the car because he refused to roll down his windows or exit the vehicle during the traffic stop.

Mason had been previously asked not to tres on the bar’s property.

Mason was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal tresing, resisting arrest and failure of owner to maintain required insurance, first offense.

One person was bitten by the raccoon, according to police.
