‘He is safe’: Missing zebra caught over a week after escaping
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) - Ed the Zebra has officially been captured as of Sunday morning after being out wandering for over a week in Tennessee.
The zebra’s owners, Taylor and Laura Ford, confirmed the good news with WSMV reporter Courtney Allen.
The owners said a team from Texas, Tango 82, was able to capture him within an hour after finding him in a pasture near the Buchanan Estates subdivision near Interstate 24.
Deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency established command.
Officers were on standby to make sure residents who lived nearby were safe.
The zebra was then airlifted and flown by helicopter to a waiting animal shelter.
The owners told WSMV that Ed, previously named Zeke, is safe and 100% healthy.
“This has been a long, stressful week, and I am so happy that it ended the way it did and no one got hurt,” Laura Ford said.
Ed was brought to Rutherford County on Friday, May 30. He went missing the very next morning on Saturday, May 31.
Throughout the week, Ed was spotted in many different areas, including running down I-24.
A few days later, he was spotted in a field in Christiana.
Ed was finally captured Sunday morning.
