Former Braves first-round pick Cameron Caminiti shines in Greenjackets debut

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - At just 18-years-old, Cameron Caminiti showed the baseball world that he has what it takes to make his name known outside of SRP Park.
During Saturday night’s game between the Augusta Greenjackets and the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, Caminiti made his season debut, and surely didn’t waste it.
The Atlanta Braves’ 2024 first-round pick went three-up, three-down, with three strikeouts in the first inning.
That was just the beginning of an unforgettable start for the young man from Scottsdale, Arizona.
He continued to deal his way into the fifth inning, before being pulled after 62 pitches.
Caminiti’s season debut saw eight strikeouts, one hit, one earned run, and one walk.
His efforts over those five innings let the Greenjackets offense get out in front 3-1.
The Woodpeckers would go on to tie the game in the eighth inning, before inclement weather delayed the game for roughly 90 minutes.
Play resumed just before 10 p.m., and Fayetteville completed the comeback in extra innings 5-4 over Augusta.
The loss moves the Greenjackets down to fourth place in the Carolina League standings, just behind Fayetteville.
