AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A nonprofit organization in Aiken planned a fun event Saturday for young people in the community, in an effort to help reduce violence.

In honor of Gun Violence Awareness month, Jeremiah’s Sports Foundation held the Youth Fun Festival Saturday at Silver Bluff High School. NFL Player Tarron Jackson, who once attended Silver Bluff, also made an appearance.

Victim ID’d in deadly crash in McDuffie County

The coroner’s office says 60-year-old Lisa Lazier, of Thomson, died in the crash.

Courtney Hunter, who lost her son, Winston O’Conner Hunter, to gun violence in 2022 expressed the importance of hosting events like the Youth Fun Festival.

“We want to get to the younger crowd because Winston was just six years old,” said Hunter. “Well, when he lost his life, one of his last assignments that he left with his teacher was that he wished the world to be nice. So, if a six-year-old can think like that, why can’t we?”
