Finding Solutions: Group rolling out 2nd mobile laundry for homeless
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Imagine not being able to take a shower or even wash your clothes.
That’s a sad reality for a lot our neighbors.
Thankfully, we have people in our area making sure basic needs are met at least weekly, if not more often.
The nonprofit Com for Hope is getting ready to unveil a new mobile laundry trailer – finding solutions by doubling its impact.
Com for Hope has been serving those experiencing homelessness since 2018.
“We just want to help people,” founder Mike Garrison said “We want to love them where they are and we want to make a difference so as long as we’re doing those things I’m excited to get out every Sunday and continue to serve.”

You can find the organization full of volunteers starting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday downtown in the parking lot of the now demolished James Brown Arena.
They distribute food, clothes, hygiene products, and bikes.
The group has two mobile shower trailers and, now, two laundry trailers.
The second one will be officially unveiled and put to use this weekend. “I’ve always felt like I was chasing a crazy dream, and it’s wonderful when corporations and folks like Piedmont are willing to get on board and chase that dream, so it’s huge blessing to take some of that financial burden away from us,” Garrison said. He says every Sunday, the group is serving nearly 150 people, sometimes more.
With the added laundry unit, twice as many clothes can be washed.
Golden Harvest expanding summer feeding program to help end hunger
The feeding program bridges the hunger gap by providing 35-pound boxes of food filled with staples like fresh produce and meats to Georgia families with children ages 17 and under.
“As we open up the trailer, it’s just volunteers who come in here, and we have some quick cycles, so we are able to run through about a 19-minute laundry cycle so we’re getting done as many loads as we can each Sunday,” he said. Com for Hope is always in need of more partners and volunteers to continue making a difference in the lives of others.
Garrison says it’s great witnessing the impact. “Usually, there is somebody that it brightens their day or gives them a different outlook,” he said, “and those are the ones it’s really nice to see them walkaway in a better mood then when they showed up.”
