Lady Gamecocks chosen as No. 1 seed to start March Madness run

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - The South Carolina women’s basketball team has been selected as a No. 1 seed in the Birmingham 2 Regional for the 2025 Women’s March Madness Tournament.

USC will play Tennessee Tech to kick off their March Madness run on Friday at Colonial Life Arena.

As long as South Carolina advances from the round of 32, they’ll make their way to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Sweet 16.

USC only lost three games throughout the regular season. South Carolina came up short to three other top teams in the nation: UCLA, Texas and UConn.

Clemson Selected for NCAA Tournament as No. 5 Seed in Midwest Region

Clemson University men’s basketball earned an at-large bid into the 2025 NCAA Tournament as a No. 5 seed and will face the No. 12 seed McNeese in the first round of the tournament.

Dawn Staley and the Gamecocks earned a share of the SEC’s regular season title and won the top seed for the SEC tournament after a coin flip by the conference’s commissioner.

South Carolina went on to win its third straight SEC Championship, beating Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and Texas in the conference tournament. The Gamecocks won their third meeting with the Longhorns this season by a score of 64-45 in the Championship game.

The Final Four will take place in Amalie Arena, Tampa, Florida, on Friday, April 4. The championship will follow on Sunday, April 6.
