18 animals find fur-ever homes at speed dating event
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - We now have an update on the Speed Dating Adoption event at the Aiken County Animal Shelter.
The event happened on Saturday afternoon in honor of Valentine’s Day.
The Friends of the Animal Shelter said nine dogs and nine cats at the shelter were adopted over the course of the day.
Kids write poems for history event in Augusta
In Richmond County, the fourth annual Know Your History and Know Your Rights Poem competition took place at the county library.

Organizers say the event is important because they took in 270 animals just last month.
FOTAS also highlighted the positives of Saturday’s event.
Being able to get the dogs around people and other dogs helps them. Just like humans, dogs can start to lose hope if they are at the shelter too long.
FEMA holds housing resource fair for Hurricane Helene recovery
FEMA along with the SBA, DPH and representatives from local housing communities finished a full day of helping families at the Henry Bringham Community Center on Saturday.

“Dogs are amazing in how they can bounce back. But it’s really important that they get out of the shelter because when dogs are at a shelter too long, they can give up. They can feel like they are not going to get adopted. So, we had our longest resident adopted today, Brandy. We are very happy about that. She was a wonderful dog, but she needed to be adopted and move on with her life,” said Animal Adoption Assistant Bob Gordon.
You don’t have to adopt an animal to help them either.
You can schedule an appointment to visit or volunteer to help get the dogs some human connection at the shelter or temporarily foster an animal.
