Orangeburg County investigator dies suddenly in her home

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WIS) - The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office said one of its crime scene investigators died suddenly in her home at 32 years old.

Celita Evans died on Sunday after serving with the agency since September 2022.

Law enforcement agencies in Richmond and Orangeburg counties are mourning the separate deaths of two longtime deputies.

She recently graduated from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy in March 2023.

“Evans rose quickly through the ranks from deputy to become a crime scene investigator,” a statement from the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page said.

“She made such an impact on us as individuals and as an agency,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said on Facebook. “She will be truly missed.”
