SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Stunning video has now been released of two men dressed as Amazon workers attacking a Savannah man inside of his home.

The man opened his front door, expecting a package Saturday morning, but instead, police say he was beaten by two men posing as Amazon employees.

It’s startling footage that’ll put anyone who orders online on edge. WTOC spent the day speaking with neighbors about this terrifying attack.

George ‘Dirk’ Hardison opened his front door to those he thought were Amazon workers who were delivering a package that morning. That is, until they pushed their way into his home, then attacked and beat him. The incident was caught on camera.

The 66-year-old Savannah man was beaten within an inch of his life Saturday morning around 8:00 a.m., sending him to the hospital to get 14 staples in his head.

Two men disguised as Amazon workers walked straight into a home on Price St., covered their faces, wore signature blue and black jackets, and even carried a package. It’s unclear what exactly was in the box that they brought with them. They also left with the same package.

The police report alleges that the two men demanded money once inside, before beating Hardison with some sort of sledgehammer. The attack lasted for nearly eight minutes.

The two young men made off with only $80 dollars. Footage captured the two leaving with the same package they walked up with, and the homeowner screaming out for help.

Hardison yelled out for neighbors who showed up soon after to find him covered in blood with multiple head injuries.

The first man who ran to Hardion’s aid told police, “That he saw a black male wearing an Amazon jacket running on E. Huntingdon Street towards E Broad St.”

According to that report, Savannah Police Officers “observed several lacerations on Mr. Hardison’s head as he was sitting in his own blood from his injuries.”

Police are still searching for these suspects. They describe the two men as younger black males, with medium brown complexion, and in their 20s.

They are set to be charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, and home invasion at minimum.

In the meantime, as Hardison recovers, the bar where he works- O’Connell’s Pub, has started a GoFundMe to help with his recovery. As of 2 p.m. Monday, that total stands at $4,500 raised for his recovery.

Another social media post about the GoFundMe reads, “The police are investigating this heinous crime, but in the meantime, let’s show Dirk the love and he deserves.”

WTOC reached out to Mr. Hardison but we’re told he is still recovering in the hospital from this attack.

WTOC also reached out to Amazon.

Amazon reps tell us these men in this video were not making a scheduled delivery.

Their company continues to monitor the internet for unauthorized Amazon apparel and attempt to get them removed when possible.

Amazon drivers do not routinely knock on doors or make homeowners sign for their products- unless that is already pre-arranged.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on this crime should call Savannah Police directly.
