2 arrested in string of auto break-ins in across Burke County

Police arrested two suspects and are looking for another in connection to a theft of over $28,000 from an auto shop.

WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Authorities arrested two suspects in connection to a string of auto break-ins throughout Waynesboro and Burke County, the sheriff’s office announced Wednesday.

Authorities say on Nov. 19, investigators from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Waynesboro Police Department, identified and apprehended two suspects in connection with a series of auto break-in incidents.

During the investigation, the suspects were identified as Demari Crawford, 21, of the 500 block of Grays Grove Church Road, and Jamie McNair, 18, of the 800 block of Davis Road, according to authorities.

Both individuals were located at their respective residences and taken into custody without incident, authorities said.

Crawford and McNair were transported to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where they were formally charged with multiple offenses related to the recent auto break-ins.

  • 7 counts of entering an automobile to commit a theft or felony
  • 3 counts of theft by taking firearm
  • theft by taking a motor vehicle
  • possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Jamie McNair

  • 7 counts of entering an automobile to commit a theft or felony
  • 3 counts of theft by taking firearm
  • theft by taking a motor vehicle

Both individuals were also charged by Waynesboro Police with burglary which occurred at 248 East 6th Street.

Police say multiple items, including firearms, a golf cart, tools, cash, and a vehicle were stolen on Monday morning from Andy’s Auto & Diesel.

Through the investigation and numerous search warrant services, two vehicles, the golf cart, three firearms, and countless other stolen items were recovered.

• Snap-on Zeus Scanner

• Purple Bicycle

• Mossberg 12-gauge Pump Shotgun

• Miscellaneous Snap-on Tools
