6 letters go home to Columbia County families in 4 days

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Over the course of four days, six letters have gone home to Columbia County families over various incidents on school campuses.

The most recent incident occurred on Thursday at Lakeside High School, where four students were involved in a physical altercation.

School officials say there are no reports of student injuries.

The letter states three students face criminal charges, and all four students will be held able according to the code of conduct.

On Wednesday at Evans Middle School, a student was found with a sharp multi-sided blade, commonly referred to as a throwing star, on campus.

The letter states that the student showed the object to a teacher, who immediately confiscated it and ed the istration.

Also on Wednesday, a student was found with a knife at Columbia Middle School, according to a letter sent home to families.

Also Tuesday, parents were told of a physical altercation between two students in the commons area of Evans High School during class change. The two students involved have been criminally charged and will also face consequences according to the student code of conduct, the school district said.

The incidents came after two students were caught with knives Monday in the district:

  • A student was found with a pocket knife at Harlem High School, according to school officials. The student was showing it to peers, and no threats were made, but the student is being held able according to the code of conduct and the law.
