JD Vance pushes border issues during visit to Georgia
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance made a campaign stop in Valdosta on Thursday.
This visit is part of the Republican ticket’s broader campaign strategy to emphasize border security but also, because Georgia is once again going to be critical in the election.
“We want the people to feel a little bit of love and make sure that we are thinking about them because we aren’t going to win without them,” Vance said. “But I think what is unique, and the effects of the policies of Kamala Harris, is the wide open section of I-10 and I-75 very close by it creates a lot of space for the drug traffickers, sex traffickers and human traffickers.”
Ga. counties urge state election board to stop changing rules
“Any last-minute changes to the rules risk undermining the public’s trust in the electoral process and place undue pressure on the individuals responsible for managing the polls and istering the election,” Travis Doss said

Several South Georgia sheriffs stood with Vance as he stated former President Donald Trump’s plan to close the border, especially the southern part. He said due to the lack of border security, every community across the country has become a border state -- dealing with the effects of what he calls “illegal immigrants.”
Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk ed Vance to Trump’s border plans. He believes it will make it more difficult for drugs like fentanyl to make it in South Georgia.
“You couldn’t find a better pair than we got,” Paulk said. “They are very much pro-law enforcement and we are there to work with them, but we have to go to get out and get these people elected because it’s the most important election I’ve ever been in in my life.”
How to request a Ga. absentee ballot for November election
If you’re a Georgia voter and plan to cast an absentee ballot in the November election, the window to request that ballot is now open.

Several event attendees said they came out to learn more about Vance.
“The younger generation is what is making up the best parts of the votes and believe we have the strongest voice right now,” Emily Blanton, an event attendee said. “So I really wanted to come out here and learn what the guy stands for.”
“I just know that they are going to get the job done... they are going to do what we the American people want for our country,” said Patsy Casteen, an event attendee.
With less than three months away from the election, Vance says he and Trump are focused on policies that will protect law enforcement if elected.
