Fowl play: ‘Chicken Man’ steals $12K in meat from stores in Carolinas

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - A suspect known as “Chicken Man” has stolen more than $12,000 worth of chicken from grocery stores in the Carolinas, according to investigators.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said the man entered Food Lion on Reidville Road in June and showed an employee a screenshot on his cellphone of a barcode from some “bad chicken,” saying he had recently purchased it and wanted the store to replace the packages.

An employee granted the request and “Chicken Man” was seen on surveillance video leaving the store with two new packs of chicken worth approximately $50.

A Food Lion loss prevention detective determined the suspect has been tracked to numerous Food Lion stores in North Carolina and has stolen over $12,000 in chicken from the stores he targeted, according to the incident report.

The store manager also told deputies that “the suspect is fully aware of the store’s return policy which is double your money back when returning any bad or defective items.”

Anyone with information about the individual captured on surveillance video is asked to law enforcement.
