Troopers investigating after Orangeburg-area crash claims the life of one

One person is dead following a Wednesday morning crash outside of Orangeburg.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - One person is dead following a Wednesday morning crash outside of Orangeburg.

Troopers say the crash happened around 7:40 a.m. and was between a 2007 Mercedes-Benz and a 2002 Kia Sportage.

About 3 miles west of Orangeburg, the 2007 Mercedes-Benz was traveling east on Highway 178. At the same time, the 2002 Kia Sportage was headed north on Shillings Bridge Road.

The two cars collided at the intersection between those two roads.

The driver of the Kia Sportage was injured and taken to the hospital.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was also injured and taken to the hospital, where they would later die from those injuries.

The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the identity of the victim.

This crash is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
