Columbia County Commission hopefuls face deadline

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Qualifying is set for next week for candidates hoping to fill the Columbia County Commission seat of Gary Richardson.
Richardson resigned to run for the state House seat vacated by Barry Fleming, who was appointed as a judge.
Qualifying for the District 3 seat of the Columbia County Commission is set for Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the Columbia County Board of Elections. There’s a $195 qualifying fee.
The special election will take place May 21 for District 3 voters only. The voter registration deadline is April 22.
Richardson and CJ Pearson are in a runoff for Fleming’s House District 125 seat. The runoff will be March 12.
