Allendale-Fairfax Elementary kids are learning through LEGOs

FAIRFAX, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Students at Allendale-Fairfax Elementary School are experiencing newfound enthusiasm as they build science, technology, engineering and math projects using LEGOs.
The school got the learning materials through a $10,000 grant from Savannah River Mission Completion, liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site.
The LEGOs are key to hands-on learning activities that let the kids explore STEM concepts and principles.
They have built models demonstrating scientific principles, engineering solutions and math concepts. The LEGO sets have helped foster creativity, problem-solving skills and teamwork.
Principal Sheila Leath says student engagement has reached an all-time high.
“We have witnessed our students tackling challenges in innovative ways,” she said.
SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson is happy with the results.
“The success experienced by the faculty and students is exactly what SRMC hoped for when making the donation,” Olson said. “The school has a thriving STEM program and is reaching new heights.”
