NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - More changes and developments are coming to the North Augusta riverfront.

The GreenJackets, a hotel and an amphitheater have popped up over the past few years and they aren’t done yet.

Before 4 p.m., you couldn’t tell a new boat dock and overlook on the riverfront is on the way. The only sight was a silver fence, red dirt, rows of black tarps and a blue bin.

By 4:30 p.m., construction workers moved our News 12 crew to block off the amphitheater area so they could start major work.

The project is totaling more than $900,000. Part of it will be paid for by the American Rescue Plan and the other part will come from the Aiken County Watercraft tax.

Those who walk this area often, like Dan Jolich, say they are excited about the continued growth of the riverfront.

“We were just here the other day and it was open and then all of a sudden I see a fence down there. That’s why we came down here to see what’s going on and you said it will be a new boat dock. I think that’s great and even better. I would like to see there be more restaurants and more stuff to do,” said Jolich.

As you come out and enjoy all that North Augusta has to offer, that construction is going on and that there could be even more changes coming to the area in the next few weeks.
