NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - North Augusta police continue to investigate a shooting that apparently left a man injured outside a shopping center, authorities said Thursday.

The shooting involved a red car and another vehicle around 11 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of Martintown Plaza, 1127 Knox Ave.

Both vehicles left the scene after the gunfire, and officers searched the area but could not find them.

However, police did find shell casings at the scene.

A witness told authorities he thought someone had been shot, and authorities learned that a gunshot victim was dropped off by a red car at a hospital in Augusta.

Elsewhere in Aiken County ...

In a separate incident, Aiken County deputies responded to a report of gunshots on Jeffcoat Road around 2:45 a.m. Thursday. That’s about two miles outside Wagener.

Dispatchers say deputies attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle in the area near the scene of the reported shooting. We’re told the driver of that car did not stop and attempted to flee the scene, resulting in a short chase. We’re told deputies eventually called off the pursuit without stopping the driver.
